Child welfare activists have launched a petition over the deaths of children in foster care calling for a police investigation.

The petition calls on Premier Rachel Notley “to rectify miscarriage of justice … and to direct Authorities to oversee a systematic examination of Child death reviews” according to an email that went out to the premier and several newsrooms.

Spokesperson for the support group “Protecting Canadian Children” Velvet Martin says several MLAs, including from the NDP government, attended a candlelight vigil on June 22nd.

“From that we’ve only heard words, we haven’t seen any action and we need action now” Martin says.

“If we’re going to stop the deaths of kids we need action and words are not enough anymore.” she says.
